In February, 2024, the Saint Mary’s University Faculty Union Executive called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. After the third International Court of Justice order that Israel halt its offensive, the Executive issued a further statement requesting the University disclose detailed information about its investments “to assess SMU’s potential complicity in arming Israel through institutions and organizations.” It also requests the University divest of any holdings in “companies linked to genocide, human rights violations, occupation and apartheid in Israel.
